Taverna Opa - In the Heart of Downtown Delray
The Renewed Taverna Opa Delray Reveals A Stunning New Mykonos-Inspired Dining Room and Menu, Spectacular Fish Display & Exciting Weekly Specials
Taverna Opa, in the heart of Downtown Delray Beach's Atlantic Avenue is a special (and popular) place. Propiertors John and Sophia Theodore own and manage the Greek home and family style eatery and all around fun place. Legendary Greek restaurateur Peter Tsialiamanis creator of all Taverna Opa restaurant concepts across South Florida including Taverna Kyma, Giorgio’s Grill and Giorgio’s Bakery, is officially ‘passing the torch’ to his three children, beginning with Taverna Opa Delray.
The new Taverna Opa Delray has been expanded to cater to families, executives, outings and occasions of all sizes. Mykonos-inspired flooring and blue and white accents in the dining room transport guests to the Mediterranean which serves as the stage for nightly belly dancing performances. Sophia’s generous hospitality cultivates a welcoming family atmosphere throughout the restaurant while John serves as Executive Chef and leads Taverna Opa’s culinary team in menu creation. In the kitchen, John serves as Executive Chef and leads the culinary team in using the highest-quality meats and seafood in the creation of each authentic dish. Ingredients are imported directly from Greece to ensure supreme flavor and excellence in every bite, preserving the original recipes first introduced by Peter that have stood the test of nearly three decades. With authentic Greek cuisine being the main event, guests can expect memorable meals over signature menu offerings reflective of the traditional Greek preparations. Feast on generous portions of Greek staples: Traditional Greek Salad tossed in Opa dressing, flaming Saganaki, Spanikopita and more. The new fresh fish and seafood display showcases the finest selections from across the globe including South African prawns, Spanish octopus and Greek branzino.
The new Taverna Opa Delray features wooden-slat ceilings, whitewashed tables and wooden bench seating lining the east wall. The open and airy dining room comfortably accommodates large gatherings, intimate dinners and plenty of space for mingling and dancing. Grecian urns make up the bulk of decorative items, reflective of the rustic minimalism of the Greek islands, and the floors are an exact reproduction of Mykonos streets. The roomy indoor-outdoor bar features tall back stools for guests to enjoy a full meal or cocktails, opening out to an intimate alcove hidden away from the bustling main road.
The service was excellent - the entire staff is attentive, friendly and genuine. For a memorable experience, come and try out their fun and favorful Greek atmosphere at 270 East Atlantic Ave, Delray Beach or visit them at www.taveraopa.com
