Oktoberfest - 2012
The American German club of Lantana held its 39th annual Oktoberfest starting on Oct 12, 13, 14 and 19, 20 and 21st. It is a jam packed event including a carnival midway with rides and challange games for young and old alike. Also traditional food such as bratwurst, schnitzl, potato pancakes authentic German bands, dancing, strudel and plenty of other choices. As you can imagine, plenty of beer provided by Hofbrau of America and other imports. And for the real partiers, lots of Schnapps, Jager and my favorite this year was the Barenjager - which is a wonderful Honey Bourbon. You will also see plenty of traditional German attire and count how many times you here the Chicken Dance song :).
There are events like who can hold the full (5.5 lb) beer stein the longest. Winner gets $50 prize and entry into national event in NYC. The longest I saw was just over 4.5 minutes. Last years winner was also there (he did over 8 minutes) but did not compete.
Kurt Frieter is the current President of the American German Club and is proud of the volunteers and the success of the event and club. The American German Club strives to promote: The Cultural Value of German Customs, Opportunities for Good Fellowship ‘Gemütlichkeit’, Preservation of German Cultural Artifacts for Future Generations, Education of the Public of Palm Beach County. Kurt is a gracious host, known by many at the event and enjoys what he does. He even gave it a shot to hold the stein but did not win...
Parking is free and there are plenty of areas to sit, drink, eat, dance and just have a good time under the pavilions or enjoy the club house for more of the same.
Prost and Zicke, zacke, zicke, zacke, hoi, hoi, hoi... See you there next year.
